Vase made of paper clay, featuring a large opening at the top.

Material
Paper clay is a special type of clay. Paper clay is made by mixing ordinary clay with paper fibres. This gives the clay in unfired form a number of specific properties that are considered advantages by ceramists: the clay is much stronger; very thin 'sheets' of clay can be made.

Colour
Paola Paronetto's collection consists of lots of different colours and shades. This light green colour is soft, just like velvet (Lichene).

Technology
After relentless personal research, Paola experiments with numerous techniques and ceramic materials. Eventually, she focuses on paper clay, which is where the Cartocci collection comes from.

Paola Paronetto is an Italian ceramist. She started her training at a young age in the beautiful countryside between Umbria and Tuscany, where she learnt modelling techniques and took her first steps into a world that fascinated her immensely. After a quest of more than 30 years in which Paola Paronetto experimented with very different techniques and materials and searched for her personal style, she decided to devote herself to paper clay. After a long and labour-intensive process, this led to the "Cartocci" collection, a rich series of sculptural objects of which the Paola Paronetto Anemone bowl is the most famous.
