Minerals, especially the larger specimens, have considerable ornamental value for us. These natural works of art, sometimes thousands or even millions of years old, are fascinating objects of Mother Nature.
The extraction of minerals from mines, mountains and caverns is a unique process. The person who discovers these natural wonders is the first to witness their beauty. Cracking open geodes is a special moment, as it allows you to be the first to see the inside of the mineral yourself, which often feels like the 'birth' of something wonderful.
Our favourite minerals are rock crystals, amethysts and malachite. These larger minerals serve as showpieces in any interior, similar to the most beautiful sculptures on earth. They combine beautifully with other elements such as glass and ceramics. Our collection also includes calcite and the impressive Heulandite geodes.
We like to use minerals in our compositions. They enrich still lifes on tables or sideboards and can be a spectacular addition, such as a large rock crystal on a pedestal. These natural beauties add to the unique look of our creations.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by minerals, a passion that began during my primary school days. This fascination influences my formal language, focusing on the inherent beauty of these natural elements. Historically, artists like Rembrandt were also inspired by rock crystals and geodes. His use of minerals as an inspiration and element in his paintings is an example of this, as can be seen in the Rembrandt House. Contemporary artists, such as Harjo Neutkens, also use minerals in their artworks.
At Oogenlust, we value everything that is close to nature and possesses intrinsic beauty. We treat these natural wonders with great care and respect, as they fit perfectly within our philosophy and style.
