About the creator

The motivation behind each of the collections is a genuine dedication to creating unique glassware in form, colour and texture. Each Henry Dean object is made from mouth-blown glass. Using a wooden mould is a very primitive technique for making glass objects and must be carried out by the skilled hands of true craftsmen. Each time this mould is used, it burns out a little. This gives each product its handmade and unique character.

Henry Dean's extraordinary use of colour

Applying colour to glass and experimenting separately or combined with different techniques to achieve this is currently one of Henry Dean's greatest fascinations. For example, you can apply a double layer of colour in a specially made oven. Another example is pulverising colour and applying it to a clear glass mass. The small bumps and bulges you might encounter in a glass or vase are the result of the craft and are part of the character of each object.

Mouth-blown glass by Henry Dean

The company Henry Dean was founded in 1972. It is now a second-generation family business whose focus has evolved from importing a whole range of different decorative objects, to designing and creating glass objects and tableware. The designs are all made in-house and then mouth-blown by specialist craftsmen.

The collection consists of three branches: Henry Dean, Deanflowers and Land.

- 'Henry Dean': art-inspired glass objects

- 'Deanflowers': a range of vases for high-end florists

- 'Land': a collection made for the home and living environment
